bed的基本意思是“床,床鋪”,包括床架、床墊、毯子、床單、枕頭等。也可指某種東西的“底盤”“底座”等,還可指房屋的“地基”。可引申指“房事”,在日?？谡Z(yǔ)或在公開(kāi)場(chǎng)合可作委婉語(yǔ)使用。
bed可用于表示抽象概念,這時(shí)是不可數(shù)名詞,無(wú)單復(fù)數(shù)之分,也不與不定冠詞連用。
bed與介詞in, into, out of等連用時(shí)通常不用冠詞或其他限定詞；與介詞on連用時(shí)通常要有冠詞。
一般說(shuō)來(lái)，躺在床上的習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)是in bed，但是如果說(shuō)躺在某張床上，可用介詞in或者on，例：on/in this bed或on/in the same bed；
go to bed是習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)，意思就是“睡覺(jué)”“就寢”。bed前不加任何指示代詞，go to the bed，go to my bed等均屬不正確表達(dá)方式；
值得注意的是，這里的bed意思不僅指“床，即使睡地上，也可以說(shuō)go to bed；
bed的很多短語(yǔ)中都不含the，如take to bed，put to bed，get into bed，lie in bed和out of bed等。
